PLX Portal

The PLX Portal provided a strong, smart and fast solution for a relocatable Sales Office for Latitude Homes.

While exploring the options available to meet his client’s brief for a Sales Office, Ryan Peters from Epic Vision Architecture was introduced to the PLX Portal.

“My client wanted the doorway to the Sales Office to be as large and wide as possible,” Ryan says.

“Traditional bracing wasn’t an option, and it just didn’t make sense to add the cost, time constraints and weight of a steel portal on such a small build.”

Looking for answers, Ryan referred the project to the structural engineers at Wilton Joubert who recommended the PLX Portal.

“It was the right solution and the client agreed,” Ryan says.

The spanning capability of the glulam timber portal, coupled with its compact bracing system, meant Ryan could maximise the size of the opening and create a win-win for his client in terms of construction timeframes and costs.

“The PLX Portal allows the builder to take more control,” Ryan says. “There are less sub-contractors and fabricators involved and fixing the portal to timber is easier.”

The first time the PLX Portal was specified and installed on a project, the timeframe from specification to installation was just three weeks.

Designed to be transportable, the Sales Office will take pride of place at Latitude Homes’ new residential development site in Paerata Rise, Auckland.

“I would be confident to specify the PLX Portal as a bracing solution for future projects using Prolam’s online documentation.”
