Prolam and SPAX join forces for a smarter decking solution
Customers asked us if there was a faster, better way to secure deck joists and posts. So, we found a way!
Whether you're an architect, builder, or passionate DIYer, our new boundary joist and baluster post-fixing system is here to transform the way you build decks.
Developed in collaboration with SPAX, a leader in advanced screw technology, and engineers PTL Structural & Fire, this innovative new fixing system delivers the ultimate trifecta for deck design and construction:
- Sleek aesthetics: Say goodbye to bulky brackets and visible hardware.
- Exceptional durability: The strength and dimensional stability of engineered timber.
- Simple, fast construction: Three times faster to install than other methods.
Customer-driven innovation
Every successful innovation starts with a problem that needs to be solved. So, when an architect highlighted the need for a cleaner, more efficient way to secure deck joists and balusters, we were driven to come up with a solution.
Designed specifically for Prolam glulam beams and posts, the system incorporates SPAX's A4/316 stainless steel screws and has been tested for compliance with the strength and deflection requirements of NZS 3604 and AS/NZS1170.
The result is a streamlined fixing system that enhances the beauty of timber decks with a sleek, uncluttered finish, while maintaining their structural integrity. Backed by a PS1 Producer Statement for smooth building consent and clear instructions to support you during the construction process.
Why choose glulam timber?
Prolam’s glulam timber is a strong, stable and sustainable material that’s ideal for exterior applications.
Made by bonding multiple layers of select grade, locally grown and kiln-dried Radiata Pine together using durable adhesives, Prolam glulam outperforms solid timber in every way:
- Superior stability: Resistant to twisting, splitting, and shrinking.
- Engineered excellence: Designed for high-performance structural use.
- Finished to perfection: Beautiful, visual grade timber treated for last protection against boring insects and moisture.
When paired with SPAX screws, glulam timber becomes the cornerstone of decks that look great and last a lifetime.
A solution for other applications
While this new boundary joist and baluster fixing solution is ideal for decks, it can be used wherever you are wanting a more streamlined connection between beams and posts, such as verandas and timber balustrades.
